Representing the American Legion Post 235
I’m Bill Rubin and I’m on the BVM Committee representing the Brighton American Legion Post 235 and all Brighton Area Veterans. I moved to Michigan in 1975, and I’ve been a resident of the Brighton area and Genoa Township for over 30 years My wife, Susan, works for Livingston Educational Support Agency (LESA) and supports Brighton Area Schools (BAS). Our three children have all attended and graduated from BAS.
I’m a U.S. Army Veteran. I received my commission (2LT) from the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of Iowa in 1969. I received my officers basic training in Field Artillery at Ft. Sill, OK. I’ve seen duty in Panama, the Republic of Viet Nam (RVN) and Germany. While in RVN with the 173 Airborne for two tours, I was awarded three Bronze Star Medals (BSM) and 6 Air Medals (AM). I completed my U.S. Army Reserve obligation in 1978 as a Captain.
Ricci Bandkau – Secretary
Liaison to City of Brighton
Ricci is born and raised in Brighton. She has been a realtor since 2004 and is now working with Prudential Heritage Real Estate.
Her City of Brighton service spans thirty five years having served on the Officers Compensation Commission, Election Commission, Zoning Board of, and the Brighton City Council since 2004. She was Mayor Pro Tem from 2005-2009, and Mayor from 2009 to 2011. She currently serves as a council member.
While serving on council she has served on the Michigan Municipal League Legislative Governance Committee; Water, Infrastructure and Environment Committee; EOA Board member, Vice Chair and Chairperson until 2011. Region 1 Vice Chair and Chair until 2011. She was elected by the Michigan Municipal League to the Board of Trustees in 2011 which she currently serves on.
Ricci was nominated and inducted into the Women’s Roll of Honor in 2006, past elder of First Presbyterian Church of Brighton, served on boards for the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts, and Brighton Historical Society. She has received her Master Gardener Designation.
Ricci currently serves on the Veteran’s Memorial Committee.
Ricci is married to Don. They have two daughters, and three grandsons.
Ken Frasheski, Member
US Army (Retired) First Sergeant
Kenneth was drafted into the Army in 1964. After two years of active duty he was promoted to Sergeant. He then spent four more years in the U.S. Army Reserve and was Honorably Discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1970. But Ken wanted more. This Staff Sergeant re-enlisted with the Army Reserve in 1976. Over the next 22 years and several overseas tours of duty, he was awarded three Army Achievement medals, five Army Commendation medals, and three Army Meritorious Service medals. Finally in 1998 this First Sergeant retired from US Army Reserve. All the while he had been working at United Technology Corporation in Wisconsin and after forty years of service he retired from this civilian job in 2004. While in Wisconsin, Kenneth was a member of the American Legion Post and graduated from the Civilian Police Academy in Germanytown, WI. He is now continuing that in Michigan as the past Post Commander of American Legion Post 235 while also on the Board of Directors at the American Spirit here in Brighton.
Kenneth resided in Wisconsin for over sixty years with his wife, Cheryle. They relocated to Brighton in 2005 to be near daughter Katherine, son-in-law Steve Fox, and their grandchildren Lauren and Brecken. Kenneth and his wife are members of Sheperd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Brighton.
